Who are you?
Kym Banguis, Office worker by day, tshirt designer/ninja by night.
What do you do for fun?
Compose jingles, watch a ton of movies, and enjoy the food Vancouver has to offer (using my Entertainment Book coupons, of course)
What is your favourite community and why?
My church – we’re a community all about the community, especially since we are situated in an area surrounded by less fortunate families. Plus we’re all just super cool.
What is your super power?
I consulted my boyfriend about this and he said my super power is transforming into the “mischief machine”
How do you use it to build community?
My “mischief” makes people laugh and it brings people together and puts them at ease. People who appear closed off and don’t want anything to do with anyone usually just want someone who will listen, take them for who they are, and most importantly – just be a friend.
Here are my three favourite things about Kymela Banguis…
1. She is an accountable “doer”. Why isn’t Kym working with my team anymore? Well, because she’s an entrepreneur. A lot of people talk about leaving their job to start their own business making tshirts – heck I’ve philosophized about doing the same thing. Few people walk the talk, though. And, in all she does, Kym holds herself accountable and delivers on what she promises. And she does so with exceptional thoughtfulness and creativity.
2. Touch points. I like movies and pirates and playing basketball. Kym likes movies, and we spend Monday having “movie review” sessions. She does not, however, particularly care about pirates or basketball. But, here’s the thing, she knows these are “touch points” to guide a conversation with me. By focusing on my likes and interests as we chat, Kym makes me – and whoever she speaks with – feel like a million bucks. This skill goes beyond active listening into another level of relationship building that inspires people in Kym’s life – like yours truly – to go out of their way to do what they can to grow her business. Speaking of which: check out her website.
3. She helps people and asks for nothing in return. Whether it’s volunteering in Richmond on weekends or heading to New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina, Kym goes out of her way to help people in need. She’s modest and so humble about it that she won’t actually go into detail until you prod her about it, and, most importantly, she asks for nothing in return. Her community is lucky to have her, and so is The Potentiality‘s!
Good luck with all your future plans, schemes and mischievous shenanigans, Kymela Banguis. Have fun with ’em!
